2D Kinematic Modelling
World-leading 2D forward and reverse modelling tools
The 2D Kinematic Modelling module enables you to build, balance, restore and analyse cross-sections at local and regional scales, helping you understand how geological time influences present-day structure. It uses kinematic algorithms to restore deformation while maintaining line-length and area balance, defining a geologically consistent undeformed state and enabling assessment of structural uncertainty and evolutionary feasibility.

Work in 2D through geological time
Restore and forward model deformation through time and assess the timing of key geological events.
Use advanced kinematic algorithms
Including block restoration, flexural slip, simple shear (including move-on-fault), trishear (planar and non-planar faults), fault-parallel flow and fault-bend folding.
Model geological processes
Incorporate sedimentation and erosion, salt tectonics, and backstripping including compaction, thermal subsidence and isostasy. Seismic data and imagery can be carried through restoration workflows.
Define key modelling parameters interactively
Adjust fault displacement, shear angle, regional level, fault position, propagation angle, trishear angle, and sedimentation/erosion rates in forward models.
Validate and refine interpretations
Test geological scenarios, produce balanced cross-sections, and improve confidence in fault trajectories and detachment depths.
