IPM 7.5 Enhancements

New Features in the Latest Versions of the IPM Suite - Released January 2010

IPM 7.5

This is a summary of the main additions that have been incorporated into the IPM suite of programs in the January 2010 release.

GAP Version 8.50 - Enhancements Implemented:

PVT Modeling

Gas viscosity correlations (Lee et al. and Carr et al.) selectable for pressure drop calculations

Pipeline Modeling

Advanced temperature modeling (Improved Approximation) available along with the default GAP Internal Correlations pipeline modeling
Modeling of condensed water vapour in pipelines with GAP Internal Correlations pipeline modeling

Well Modeling

Liquid injector well type to model for example polymer injection
HSP wells VLP format with sensitivity on pump speed

Constraints Violations Display

Setting option to report violated/limiting constraints when running with no optimisation

Program Interface

Possibility to select all the elements belonging to a Group
PVT Model displayed in tanks

PROSPER Version 11.50 - Enhancements Implemented:

PVT Modeling

Improved CO2 modeling
Condensed Water Vapour with Retrograde Condensate

Condensed water vapour can be modeled with gas retrograde condensate fluid

Artificial Lift

HSP

Addition of Pump Speed Method (Entered or Calculated) in Quicklook, Gradient and VLP calculations. It is now possible to use the program to calculate the pump/turbine speed in order to operate the pump at the highest efficiency

ESP pump database

Complete CENTRILIFT Pump Database implemented

Gas lift Quicklook

Added the possibility to enter DeRating parameters for Thornhill/Craver to correct the dP through the orifice for actual performance

ESP VLP/IPR matching

The VLP/IPR matching for ESP allows to enter the pump intake and discharge pressures as inputs. These data can then be passed over to the Quicklook for detailed analysis of the pump performance

Calculations

Reset results

An option to erase the results of any calculation previously performed has been added

Gradient Summary Chart

In the Tubing Correlation and Pipeline Correlation Comparison a Summary section allows to user to compare the pressure drops and the components of the pressure drops of the selected multiphase flow correlations and mechanistic models

Solids Plot

Critical Transport velocities plot is now available after running any calculation by accessing the Options button

Export/Import

Export option in PVT section

In the main PVT section an export facility has been added to allow the used to export input (Input Data, Match data tables, Tables) and output (correlation parameters,m PVT calculations)

Export/Import option in IPR External Entry

The External Entry IPR can be exported/imported from the IPR section

Clip to Copy and Paste data in PVT section

The Clip buttons in the PVT Match Data and Tables sections allow now to copy and paste data from/to the Clipboard to facilitate data import/export

Improved IPR Validation Error Messages

More information are reported when a validation error is triggered

IPR test data enhancement

In the IPR plot Test Data it is now possible to enter a date stamp and a comment for each entered test

File Overwrite check

Possibility to switch on/off a confirmation message when an existing file is overwritten

Addtion of new OpenServer commands
More flexible use of the Olgas correlation licensed

MBAL Version 10.50 - Enhancements Implemented:

Coal Bed Methane

Option added to material balance tanks and tight gas wells to allow modelling of coabed methane reservoirs using Langmuir isotherms to determine how much gas is desorbed from the rock surface and released into pore space

PVTp Version 9.50 - Enhancements Implemented:

Regression with Shift and Multiplier for Tc, Pc, AF

This regression mode consists of applying a unique multiplier and/or a shift parameters to each of the properties (Tc, Pc, AF). This mode will keep the original trends of the various
properties (Tc and AF increasing and Pc decreasing with carbon number).
As components' thermal properties are directly calculated from Tc and Pc using the principle of corresponding states, keeping the trend of these properties will also hold the trend of the
thermal properties themselves.
This is a benefit when the EoS is used in a process simulation tool, where single components/cuts thermal properties are at the basis of any calculation.

Weighting for properties in Find Best Alpha within the Whitson Advanced Pseudo Splitting method

In Find Best Alpha calculation area it is possible to set weighting to the various lab experimental data to establish relative importance of each property

BI coefficient options in Find Best Alpha within the Whitson Advanced Pseudo Splitting method

For the purpose of saturation pressure matching, BI coefficients are added at the end of the Find Best Alpha calculation. This new option allows to select the method of application of the BI coefficients: one BIC between C1 and the last pseudo, or one BIC between C1 and all the pseudos, or recalculate the BIC using any of the BIC methods in PVTP

Validation range for the S shift values

The validation range for the S shift parameter can be modified

RESOLVE Version 4.50 - Enhancements Implemented:

Upgrade of driver to ECLIPSE - 2009+

2009+ versions are now supported.
On Windows, Intel MPI, rather than Verari MPI is not used for versions of Eclipse from 2009. This allows the connection to 64-bit Eclipse running on Windows platforms (RESOLVE continues to run under 32-bit emulation).
On Linux, Intel MPI can be used in addition to Scali (Platform) MPI.
A bug in the 2008.2 version, which caused Eclipse to crash if the .ECLEND file were present at the start of the run, has been worked around.

Clustering - Upgrade of link to CMG and PSim simulators drivers

The links to the CMG simulators and PSim on Linux are now 'cluster enabled'. LSF (or similar) can be used to queue and load balance when these jobs are launched from RESOLVE.

REVEAL driver enhancement

IPR models and control modes can now be set per well, rather than globally.

IMEX driver enhancement

Well layer data can now be accessed from the RESOLVE script to automate workovers/recompletions.

Add a Generic OpenServer driver in RESOLVE

An 'IPM-OS' driver has been added for generic interactions with the IPM tools (i.e. getting/setting data or performing commands). Any IPM model can now be included in a RESOLVE workflow, as required.

An OpenServer Wizard

A new wizard has been added to take advantage of the above IPM-OS functionality.
This wizard will be used to perform generic batch OpenServer tasks. The functionality currently extends to the batch generation of lift curves from a GAP model. The generation can be done sequentially or over the nodes of a cluster.

Advanced Scheduling

Improved advanced scheduling screen to indicate immediately which sections have data in them.

Optimisation

Ability to copy variables between 'optimisation' sets and general 'exported' sets
Optimisation states can be saved. This means that the system state that is evaluated at a particular iteration (or the optimal iteration) can be stored to be re-implemented at a later time. The state can be restored as an action in the event driven scheduling, or from the Visual Basic script.

Performance Improvements

Significant performance improvements have been made in the data transfer speed for large models, and the generation of GAP variable lists.

Miscellaneous

Node lists in the reporting and plotting are now sorted alphabetically.
Improved archiving screen - multiple baggage files can now be added simultaneously from a multiple-selection file selector
Added reporting at all connections of average black oil rates.
Added the ability to export cumulative data (node or system level) from GAP into RESOLVE (for plotting or scheduling, etc, purposes).

REVEAL Version 450 - Enhancements Implemented:

Well Control

Solver improvements, especially for multi-lateral wells
Annular to base pipe heat transfer using Nusselt number method
Low draw-down cross-flowing well stability improved, with 'Min drawdown' parameter option
Gas pseudo pressure option added
Gravel pack in annular space includes annular flow as well as reservoir inflow
Smoothing and clipping of IPR data (for RESOLVE coupling) improved for strongly cross-flowing wells

OpenServer Version 1.50 - Enhancements Implemented:
